We have curated a list of organizations that specifically address the lack of representation in the fields of technology and design.

 

i.c.stars provides a rigorous technology-based workforce development and leadership training program for underserved adults, connecting them with career opportunities through partner organizations. The HR.Hackathon Alliance has been a long-time supporter and partner of i.c.stars and its compelling mission.

Black Girls Code’s vision is to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities, and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology.

Black Women in Science and Engineering’s mission is to empower Black Women through career and entrepreneurial development, insight and training.

Creative Reaction Lab is a nonprofit educating, training, and challenging Black and Latinx youth to become leaders designing healthy and racially equitable communities. It’s President and CEO Antionette D. Carroll is an award-winning community organizer and speaker.

Inneract Project serves primarily middle and high school youth who identify as Black, Latinx and/or of low-income backgrounds. A professionally-supported organization, IP offers a pathway of free design classes and initiatives, in order to introduce youth to the field of design and help channel their creativity into viable career paths.

Where are the Black Designers is an initiative and platform for Black designers. By connecting designers, educators, and creative leaders they host a dialogue about change, both in and out of the design industry.

Blacks Who Design is a directory of Black designers. The goal is to inspire new designers, encourage people to diversify their feeds, and discover amazing individuals to join your team.

Algorithmic Justice League combines art and research to illuminate the social implications and harms of AI. Their mission is to raise awareness about the impacts of AI, equip advocates with empirical research, build the voice and choice of the most impacted communities, and galvanize researchers, policy makers, and industry practitioners to mitigate AI harms and biases.
