When I was a kid, I dreamed of being President of the United States.
What brought you here? What keeps you coming back?
I came to #HRvsRacism through a desire to learn more about DE&I and tremendous respect for Oneka Cornelius. I suppose those two factors, plus additional relationships I’ve made along the way keep me coming back.
What #HRvsRacism programming and/or tools have you participated in or used? How have you used what you’ve learned in your organization or DE&I related work?
I’ve had a great opportunity to deepen my learning around racism through readings and discussions with other members. I have also participated in online events that have connected with me other professionals who have become trusted colleagues and advisors.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
There are many things to learn, but one of the most powerful would be the ability in real time to turn off all assumptions.
What's your favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
Sleep in!
What is a topic related to #HRvsRacism that you want to explore?
How feedback conversations can be leveraged to create the conditions for a more inclusive environment.
How have you handled adversity/challenges in the work you do? How did you manage it? What tools did you use?
Like most of us out there, the challenges are never-ending and constantly shifting, so the #1 ‘tool’ I use is the advice and counsel of wise and experienced people.
What's your advice for someone coming into this work for the first time?
Build trusting relationships with people who will challenge you, and prepare yourself mentally and emotionally to sit in discomfort and to stay open…for that is where the real growth happens.
